Friday, November 25th, 2011New York is home to a lot of people above the age of 65. Hence there are several health insurance companies there that sell Medicare insurance. Medicare is a private health insurance plan offered to those above 65. Those who are under 65 can also avail this plan if they are disabled. There are four parts to this plan and one has the option of choosing the required ones. Several factors have to be considered while opting for a Medicare plan. The part of plan chosen should be based on the medical situation of the individual.
If the medical condition requires occasional visits to the doctor and limited use of prescription medication, then the individual is better off with a Medicare Part A and Part B plan along with New York Medicare Part D, which covers the prescription drugs. If, however, the doctor’s visits are frequent and a lot of prescription drugs have to be taken by the person, Medicare Part B is the better choice. Some plans such as Medicare Advantage covers prescription drugs. Hence those who are under such plans do not have to enroll in Part D plan.
Although traditional Medicare plans do not have provision for wellness, dental or vision programs, some Medicare Advantage plans include them. Such plans are inexpensive when compared with other insurance plans. Traveling persons need not worry as Part A and B are valid throughout the country. However, some Medicare Advantage plans are limited to certain areas. Hence those on such plans should contact the insurance provider before traveling. There are certain limitations to the cover provided by the traditional Medicare plans. Hence supplementary plans are available for those who require comprehensive coverage. Due to the various advantages of part D Medicare plans, they are availed by a lot of people.
Formularies are the most important factor to consider while choosing a part D plan. Every plan will have a list of drugs that are covered by it. This list is known as a formulary. The cheapest and most effective drugs are usually the ones included in this list. The plan may impose restrictions on drugs not included in this list.
